Colmers School is an oversubscribed, co-educational, 11-16 foundation comprehensive school and Specialist Sports College with 1050 on the roll, located on the south west fringe of Birmingham. Colmers is the nearest secondary school to the MG Rover Longbridge site, so has had to operate in a seriously disadvantaged socio-economic environment for a number of years. An indication of its success is that it has nearly 600 applications for 210 places.
In April 2008, following a recent Ofsted inspection which rated it as "Outstanding in all categories", Colmers School was invited to take on High Performing School Status. This enabled the school to take on an additional specialism of Science.
"Colmers School is outstanding and fulfils its aim to continually improve on its previous best."
Ofsted, 2007
Colmers embraces a wide range of talented young people and is particularly focussed on practical leadership and employability skills. This means all pupils are given the opportunity to excel, and the schools Sports College status allows it to offer first class support to its young sports players. The schools use of sporting methodologies such as coaching, mentoring and leadership helps all pupils to excel across a wide range of learning areas. The school is proud of its ethos of continually improving on previous best and raising pupils achievements and aspirations.
Colmers campus operates under dual use with extensive community use of the facilities through the Leisure Centre and Adult Education programmes.
