The Development of The EDGE Partnership

The EDGE Partnership gained charitable status in 2009 (registered charity no. 1132158). Today, The EDGE Partnership of Schools in Birmingham is a clear and forward thinking entity, which has developed a culture of mutual accountability, shared vision and common purpose for the good of all EDGE students. We take into account local and national demands through clear communication and the involvement of all partners, including the Local Authority. Staff from all the schools feel a sense of belonging to the partnership and there is a feeling of trust across schools at all levels.

The EDGE evolved as a consequence of Professor Tim Brighouse’s leadership of education in Birmingham. The city’s secondary schools are divided into six main networks and it is from this organisational structure that The EDGE Partnership of schools has developed since 2004. The EDGE Partnership is one of two networks in the south west of Birmingham, and consists of ten secondary schools which have formed an ever evolving partnership for the advancement of the education of young people and the professional development of teachers.

"The schools, whilst proudly and distinctively retaining their independence and identity, have grown together to form an effective partnership which has received national recognition."

"For me, (the Edge Partnership) has enthused me at this time of my career and I feel like I am just as energetic and fired up as I’ve ever been. My staff are enthusiastic and they love been involved with Edge projects and shared experiences and I think that needs to be seen to be believed."

The Edge Partnership continues to evolve — from a network of schools in 2004, to a partnership, to a Registered Charity in 2009 and in 2010 it became the SSAT's Leadership and Innovation Hub for the West Midlands Region.
